New Bern Avenue is a historic gateway and heavily used transportation corridor in Raleigh, but is beginning to show signs of wear. A study of the New Bern Avenue corridor from Swain Street to Wake Medical Center will explore ways to renew the corridor. The preliminary goals are three-fold: (1) to identify ways to improve the appearance of the corridor, (2) to support pedestrian, bicycle and transit uses along the corridor, and (3) to stimulate economic development initiatives and revitalization in the area.
The City of Raleigh will host a public workshop to present the current conditions in the study area and to facilitate a discussion of the issues and opportunities along the New Bern Avenue corridor. Your thoughts about the corridor are important to refining the study’s purpose. We hope that you will attend this workshop to share your ideas and vision for renewing this gateway corridor.
